Why Use Recycled Paper?

We’ve all been told to do it, but do we truly understand the benefits of recycling and using recycled paper in our marketing and communication materials? The good news is that, according to the EPA, Americans recycled nearly 63% of the paper products they used in 2010. And each year more paper is recovered in America for recycling than all other products combined (except for steel).

We are a certified FSC & SFI Green Printer. We use vegetable based inks and processed chlorine free paper. Design Printing has also received the Environmental Recognition Award from by GreenWorks.

As a Design Printing client, you can also proudly display that you support the environment and can proudly display our green certification logos on your print jobs.

FSC Certification

Design Printing is FSC Certified and has been since December 2008. Our current certificate is valid until December 15, 2013.

Design Printing has implemented a FSC wood products control system according to the Forest Stewardship Council certification system, in its commercial print shop and has a valid FSC chain of custody.

SFI Certification

Design Printing is SFI certified since December 2008 and its current certification is valid through December 30, 2013.

We are proud of meeting the Sustainable Forestry Initiatives (SFI) standards for program requirements for fiber sourcing, chain of custody and product labels as a commercial printer.

What is Vegetable Oil and VOC content?

The vegetable oil inks used by Design Printing are currently supplied by Hostmann-Steinberg for most conventional sheetfed lithographic purposes are considered to be "Vegetable Oil Inks." The vegetable oil content, primarily linseed oil, ranges from 18% to 34% and the petroleum distillate content (VOC) ranges from 10 to 25%. The formulations are balanced to provide the best combination of environmental and press performance.

Design Printing is an FSC & SFI Certified Printer

You’ve probably noticed that green is everywhere these days, in the news, politics, fashion and even technology. Many current customers are asking in what ways “a partnership” with Design Printing could provide a higher level of environmental responsibility.

Design Printing now holds both FSC and SFI chain of custody certificates. We are now able to offer environmentally licensed logos that show your company’s concern to the future of our forests!

About Vegetable-Based Ink

Vegetable-based printing ink is made with vegetable oil, such as soybean or corn oil, as a substitute for petroleum.

Vegetable-based inks significantly reduce the amount of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) released into the air during printing. When the Los Angeles Times switched to soy-based ink, they reduced their VOC emissions by 200 tons per year and won an air quality award from South Coast Air Quality Management District.
